London: India-born Scot John Adrian Shepherd-Barron (23 June 1925 – 15 May 2010), inventor of the Automated Teller Machine (ATM), has died after a short illness, aged 84. He was born in Shillong, Assam (now Meghalaya), India.John had also thought of the four-digit Pin number.The first ATM was installed at a London bank in 1967.
